I am doing minor upgrades to my sound system. I have recently installed a D3. Now i am going to put in a sub. I am going with a 12" Type R and a Alpine MPR M500 amp since i am getting them both brand new for 220. Is this a good deal and setup?
I was planning running the sub at a 2 ohm load for 500 rms. Will 4 gauge be enough? BTW im putting it in this ported box for a single 12 that i already have.
Good to hear. I also have a problem of light dimming. Right now i have a type e with some 250 watt amp to it. Is there a way to get rid of the dimming? Its mostly my dome light pulsating and my brake lights. I was told a better battery and some say a cap.
make sure when you get the 4 gauge its full copper inside :] transfer power better and helps for longer runs. usually people use stinger or kicker. if anything you can run a 1 farad cap. 1 farad can handle up to 1k rms. but if you do the big 3 you might be fine. i know stinger makes a tiny 5 farad one. people usually use batteries if they are pushing mad power for a long period of time like 1 min of 1500 watt rms power. but if you can op for a battery that would be even better hehe.
^ how do i make sure that it is full copper? I do have some 4 gauge and i made sure that the rubber or plastic? seal around the wire wasnt thick So i know it has a good amount of wire. One thing that was fishy to me is that when i spliced it, the wire cut so easily, there were wire shreds everywhere. Also what is big 3? Is there a way to get the terminal connectors on the end of my wires? i cant find any 4 gauge at the store? Thanks for all the help guys! I am just reading and going along and doing everything myself so bare with me LOL.
usually they label the wires on the insulation if its pure copper. you can probably cut off part of the wire like a small snip and see if the wires just looks pure gold or has a silver tint to it. http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=152355 skim through that for the big 3 setup. it has a lot of info that can help you out. any local audio shop will carry terminal connectors or if you have a local frys or something. you can always get some copper tubing and make some of your own. what part of cali are you in. usually theres a lot of swarming audio shops in cali
First off, Thanks for all the info! I'm in Norcal Bayarea. They do have a lot of audio shops here, BUT they over charge imo because i know for a fact that i have saved a lot of money just installing my own HU and all that. Plus i think it is beneficial to learn it on my own incase i have problems.
