Ideas on custom box to replace ml sub

I think im going to try an attempt to build a custom box for my gs. My stock ml sub is starting to tear on the outsides and I am considering picking up a jl sub. My idea is that I want to do a custom design so that I can keep my rear strut bar and still have a box in there. Basically It will have a notch running down the middle of the box kind of looking like a "u" upside down. I want to have it so that the stb stays and also it will act as an anti theft device as it will all have to go in at once. How will this affect the subs performance and sound? If nobody knows what im talking about I can try drawing a picture to better illustrate my idea. Its kind of like talking a chair and having a piece of 2x4 underneath it holding it in place lol. Is this an effective box design or will the two areas in front and behind the stb affect sound in a bad way?
