I've searched thru this section of the forum looking for the specific model of Optima Yellow Top battery for a GS400. I want to get one, but would like to make sure that I get the correct model...
I've seen questions about side-post vs top-post (I'd want top post, I think), but are there various models? Does anyone know the specific model for a GS400?
Looking at Optima's website, looks like Advance Auto and Pep Boys carry them, but I don't want to rely on the guy behind the counter to get me the right one.
Does anyone know the exact model I should request?
the one with teh side post also has top post, they all have top post. I have the one with just top post. Get side post if u want it for stereo or something.
Dave - Try asking for the D34/78 model ( that's what I have two of & they've served me well for 2+ years ). It's basically the same as the D34 except that is offers side terminals in addition to the top posts of the D34 version. They both have 870 CCA ( at 32 degrees F ) as well. I personally like using the top posts as I feel that the larger surface area of the posts offers better current flow ( though I'm sure it's only marginally better but I'm Type A )!! At least the extra side posts offer U some flexibility if U need them.
I found one place in Charlotte that sells them, but there price was $169.99. In the background behind the guy I was talking to on the phone, one of the other salesmen yelled that they'd sell me one "today only" for $149.99.
The place was a "Batteries Plus". Although the Optima site said they carried the, neither Pep Boys nor Advance had a clue about what the Optima's were or how to order them.
One additional question - $169.95, heck even $149.99 seems like a pretty hefty price. Is this cost in line or is it unreasonable?
Ron - Yep, the Red Top's cheaper because it's designed for starting & not deep cycling. I believe it has a few more CCA's than the Yellow Tops but will only give ya close to 25-30 zero discharge cycles before it gives up the ghost. The Yellow's R good for over 200 & I've ZD'ed my stereo-dedicated one a few times - thank God for battery isolators ( kept the underhood Optima from draining so I could still start the car )!!
