Default Amp goes into Protection Mode

Hi,

I finally got me new head unit put in, but I've had 2 amps fail on me so far.

Sub: ED 11O V.2 (D4)

1st Amp I tired: KX400.1 (Refurbished)

2nd Amp: ZX400.1 (Refurbished)

Sub wiring:

My first amp was the Kx400.1 (Refurbished). It looked kinda beat up. When i first hooked it up the Green light was on, but the sub barely moved. After a few days i measured the Volts and tried to adjust the Gain but my multimeter wouldnt Register. The next day i turned on the car and it was in Protection mode. So i sent that amp back and figured it was bad from the start.

Next, i got another refurbished Kicker amp. this time i got the 2006 ZX400.1 It was a big diference. The sub actually put out bass. I used the 50hz track and tuned the Gain so it output 28volts. I also has the X-over at 70ish. And Bass Boost at 0. THe head unit i had on the Stock Settings.

The amp worked great for 2 days. Then today I go to testout a Divx video on the new head unit and it's playing for a little bit. Then out of no where i hear a Bass sound (as if i had music playing). It was quick, but somewhat deep/loud. The Movie file was just Voices playing so i was confused. Then a minute later it happens agian except 2 Bass hits. I pop the trunk and the Amp is Flashing RED/GREEN on the Protection Mode sensor.

What do you think is wrong?
1. I'm cheap and need to stop buying Refurbished amps
2. I have something Hookedup wrong on the AMP
3. I have something Hookedup on the Sub
4. ????????

PLEASE HELP ME!

I just Unhooked the Wiring going from the Amp to the Sub. Then turned on the Amp, but it still goes into Protection Mode. I think that rules out the Sub as the Problem.

yeah i think ur amp is shot buddy, double check your power wire, make sure none of it is touching ground, your remote wire from the radio too, make sure thats not touching any metal also.

Thanks for the reply!

I'll double check the power, but im 99% sure its not touching anything. It's a straight run from the battery and is insulated a lot.

Also, i tested the amp by Bridging the Power going into the Amp to the Remote terminal (to simulate the car turning on) and i still got a Protection Mode Flashing. So i dont think it's the remote wire.

I really hope I just had bad luck and got 2 busted amps.

If anyone else has other ideas to check into let me know Please

Turned on the amp today and its NOT in protection mode.

BUT the sub is only putting out weird noises (loud bass hits on 'volume 1' on AM talk radio). The sub doesnt seem to be broken. I'm going to test the coils later today.

I think the amp is just fried.

I hooked up an MP3 player to the Amp (using a Head phone jack to RCA cable). I had the same problem.

Also, when i unplug the Amp it will still make the weird noises and bass hits randomly.

Sounds like the amp crapped out. Are these kicker factory refubs or dead amps that were repaired by some shop?

The First amp was Repaired by some shop. which is why i think it never worked.

The 2nd amp was Factory Refurbished.

When i Called Kicker they were very extremely helpful. They offered to cover it under warranty for me, but I'm just going to try and return it to the seller. But i was happy to see Kicker stood by their products.

Just hooked up a brand new KX400.1 amp

it works fine. So it looks like i had bad luck and got stuck with 2 defective amps.
