What kind of sub are you guys running with to replace the stock one? I couldnt find much free air subs so i was wondering if anyone knows how good a jl 10w0, jl 10w1 or jl 10w3 would sound in there with no box? The first mods we are doing to my girl's car is the system so we would like some advice and maybe pics of you guys' setups. Thanks!
I have a Elemental Designs 13Ov.2 that i am in process of installing now. Should have a post up soon with pics. I'm hoping to get it done this week cause I'm out of town on business all next week
I put a JL Audio IB10 in there with an LLC and a JL 250 mono amp, sounds pretty good. Not competition but it'll bump pretty good. The IB10 is discontinued, but if you can find one they are great free air subs.
Nice, now for the real question, was this a DIY or did you have shop do it? If you went to a shop, how much did you pay? I have been thinking of either doing this or creating a band-pass box in the trunk while removing stock sub ...
I'm using a JL 10w6v2 sub with a Phoenix Gold 9.0:5 amp, JL C5 6.5" components
I disconnected the stock sub... but no point of taking it out as it helps isolate the cabin from the trunk.
I thought removing the stock sub would allow more air to be moved into the cabin, creating more spl. There is no need to isolate your trunk from cabin if your already using a sealed box for your woofer.

Well with his setup, the woofer is IN the rear seat pushing air into the cabin, so if he takes out the stock sub some of the pressure will be lost since it will get into the trunk, I like the setup, imagine the look on your friends faces when the say wtf the seat is massaging me LOL

I suppose.. removing the stock sub would allow more air to be moved around overall.
My thoughts with this setup were that since 100% of the sound waves coming from the sub are going straight into the cabin, why not keep them there. With all its sound absorbing properties I felt keeping all the sound waves in the cabin would produce the best sound quality which is what I am after. Having a 10" opening, into a second large volume, may help SPL, but it could only hurt sound quality.
If I was going for SPL I wouldn't be using a 0.625 cubic foot sealed enclosure.

Interesting .. I like the idea ... But would love to use the same hole.. or mod the top portion .. I hear it is the frame support so worried about hacking to let 2 12's fit up there ... My trunk is already full ;( from airtanks
