SC300 stereo problems!!
Guys it rained a whole lot today on my car, when I got into to drive home I found the stereo flaking in and out. The sound would go from full to skipping (like a CD would) to just being gone completely. Now I seem to have gotten it constant to play but its playing at a very weak volume level, the sub woofer is not hitting either. The sub is wired up and connected properly, it was working full the whole time even when other parts of the music were cutting out. The bass was hitting throughout. Now I have no sub woofer, and a very low audio level. Audio is coming from all 4 speakers though. I have heard this system without a sub before (i used to not have one) and it was just sans bass, the system would still pump volume to the speakers. Right now its so low even at max volume level that if I go anything above 10mph I can't hear it anymore.
Some symptoms on the drive, when I would come to a stop, often the sound would kick in full force, then as I hit the gas to go, it would cut out completely and come back in slowly but never back to full until I stopped again...This is a stock PIONEER system in a 1994 SC300, where should I start looking? PLEASE HELP!!

YES!! Well it seemed like the cracking/popping was coming from the sub woofer. I know the sub isn't blown, because I tore apart the rear deck and futzed with some of the exposed wiring and the popping and sound starting coming in again. Right now I have it set, working but it seems when the lyrics are sung in a song you can hear how the notes are not being played properly, like certain words are not heard and the voices will dip in and out kind of thing..
The problem might be that there's water in the trunk.
Here's a thread from the First Gen GS forum, apparently this has happened to quite a few members including myself.

THANKS SIEZE! I didn't notice anything wet at all inside the trunk...BUT i was recently involved in a rear end collision and had to have my trunk lid replaced, perhaps the used part I bought has some poor weatherstripping. I'm going to go thru and restrip all the weatherproofing. I'll also check my sunroof drain hoses, but as far as I know those have always been clear! Today the stereo was working fine (I guess it had time to dry out?) except under heavy acceleration in first gear. When i hit the gas in first it would cut out for a few seconds until I eased up on the gas, then came back in. I know the factory amplifier is in the rear deck right next to the sub woofer/gas tank. I'll have to check it for water next time it rains around here. Thanks again!

I had this same problem when I had my SC.
Pull back all the carpet around the CD changer and look around, if it's wet underneath, bingo, the amplifier is giving you problems, check all your drain tubes before it completely breaks.
Hope that helps some.

thanks for the additional input, I hadn't checked behind the CD changer trunk lining but I will certainly do that and see what I can find!
