Got system hooked up today. subs acting wierd
its a 13" jl w1 and a 300w off brand amp that was given to me. im getting a better amp, but i just wanted to hook it up and see what it sounded like. we hard wired the amp to the antenna. whenever you turn the car off the sub plays for probably 20 seconds. extremely annoying. it does it right after you turn the radio goes off, obviously, but still happens if its down when the cars turned off. help please
ok, well im not comfortable messing with that stuff. i can get to the back of the headunit but dont no which wires and all that. i'd rather not mess with it. but now, after about 10 minutes of being on, its starts crackling real bad..anyone know what this could be from? its becomes real staticky...also, if you turn it off it constantly plays bass until you turn it back on, and when you turn the car off, it plays until you open the trunk...its very wierd.
the speakers are starting to crack now unless its on cd...idk can someone help me

Vince,
You really need to wire the amp up properly in order to have it function. There are three wires that need to be in place for the amp to startup an shutoff correctly. The best and easiest way is to purchase an amp wiring kit. You can get them at almost every electronics store from Radio Shack to Best Buys. They generlly run any where from $15-50 depending on the wire guage and components. Get at least a 4 guage kit, this should be sufficient to power most mid range amps (100-200 watts). You will need to run the red power line directly to the battery. Check out the "How-To" stickys at the top of Audio forum. They all have pics on where and how to run the power from the battery to the trunk. Next will be the remote start wire which will be a 12 volt line that in energized when the key is in the ACC or ON position. This will turn the amp on and off with the key. Last is the ground. Find a fixture that has a bolt in to the car body and use that to ground the amp. Finaly are you using line outs to feed the amp or preamps? You may need to adjust the gain on the amp to adjust to the signal. If it is set to high the sound will be very distorted. Also check to see in the amp has a LPF (low pass filter) switch and adjust the frequency cut off for the sub. Once you get it wired and adjusted it should be fine.
