Too Much Base
Help please!!! I just installed 2 JL 12' W6 in a custom bandpass box with a JL 500/1 Mono amp into my G4. I left everything stock, including the head unit. I just added these bass components. It hits soooooo hard. I turned the boost almost all the way down and even the base 'Q' on the amp up away from the low frequencies. I thought that the stock Pioneer set up would keep up, but you can barely hear the mids and highs at low volume. I am looking for the cheapest solution, since I put a hefty sum into getting the bass, but I guess I got more than I bargained for. Should I upgrade just the stock speakers or the stock amp, or both? Any JL amps guru-maybe my controls set up wrong on the amp itself. I will take any suggestions, thank you in advance. Those w6s are awesome, though.
Are bandpass boxes louder than sealed boxes. I currently have a jl 10 in a sealed box and it sounds very clear and hits pretty well, what I was wondering is would I get more bass if I got a bandpass box instead?
You will get some slow hitting low bass with teh bandpass. Best for rap. However, you will be very disappointed when you put on some fast beat techno and your sub would be lagging real bad.
Bandpass boxes make low bass. Since low frequencies travel through air further, it will feel louder. Although, its going to be real bad when you measure it on the meter.

If you are installing extra bass components, it matters if you are staying with the stock head unit or not. If you are, then all you do is wire the new amp and woofers to it. Pretty much anybody can do it for you, just don't get ripped off since you are driving a Lexus.
Bandpass boxes hit harder then sealed. I was told that in GS you would not hear anything, because the trunk is well sealed off and it would rattle really bad. Somebody said they have a sealed box and it sounds fine, maybe I should try it.

Theoretically all you have to do to add an amp and a sub is to cut 2 RCA wires before they come to a stock subwoofer amp. Just redirect those wires to your new amp line-in and you are set to go. Percy or Gene...correct me if I am wrong, you know the physical stock stuff better then I do.
Retro - Right on the money ( as usual )! Add a good quality LLC ( Percy uses PAC & I recommend Stinger ) before the stock amp then run the RCA's to the new amp; etc, etc. Bandpass boxes play such a narrow frequency range as well as low bass ( great for loudness & "feel" but as U said, it won't show up on a meter ). No one I've seen uses B/P in competition SPL except in Port Wars. Never gave much consideration to the longer bass wave but I can see where U're onto something.
Paul - the factory amp only sends about 15-20 wrms to each speaker so U can see where that 500 watt JL amp will drown them out ( even if the W6's were in a sealed box ). Gonna need to upgrade the speakers anyway so U can add another amp - maybe a 4 channel one ).

line level converter.
hey guyz i just went out and bought a PAC LLc for 25 bucks. ok if you guyz are familar with the PAC i don't need to use the 2 Brown wires right. just the grey and white ones. one other question what do i hook the remote wire on the amp up to.

Broke - That'd take all the fun outta things as well!!
Nope, a bandpass enclosure is like a sealed or ported box - it's designed for certain parameters ( in this case, dual 12's ). A single 12 would sound crappy ( too much airspace ). A BP enclosure's like a sealed box WITHIN a ported one so if ya remove one sub, things just don't work as designed. BP's are loud by nature as they only play within a narrow frequency. Twin 12's in a BP probably are in the 30 - 80 Hz range, depending on the subs & size of the enclosure. A regular 12" will play a little lower but might go up to 200 Hz. At least a BP is efficient due to that narrow frequency range!
