Default 10 inch subwoofer

i'm not one to spend thousands on speaker upgrade, but i would like to improve the bass. i am only interested in sound quality and crispness. i don't care if someone two miles away can hear me.

i'm thinking of putting a jl 10w6 in to replace the stock sub. i have the nakamichi system in a '93 ls400.

first question: what amp would you recommend that i could just connect to what are now the speaker leads, and then to the new sub? i understand the current sub is way underpowered for a 4, 6, or 8 ohm speaker.

second question: can i just screw/bolt the new 10" into the existing hole on the off chance it will sound good enough to me without the box, or is that ridiculous?

third question: any suggested alternatives to the jl 10w6 at the same price level? would a different amp be needed?

First question: I am not sure if you want to use 1 amp for your speakers and subwoofer. Of course you can but I would get 2 different amps.

Second question: Its fine to have a sub withought a box (some surprised me big time) as long as you make sure you buy a freeair sub. Contact JL customer support dept. and ask them if w6 works for "infinite baffle" (freeair) application.

Third question: I would recomment Image Dynamics IDQ subwoofer and run it off Zapco amp. That is a better sub then JL.
