Default Help me choose new speakers

I'm looking for a new set of 3-way comp's.

DLS Iridium 8.3

Morel Elate 9

Both comps has what L'm looking for: 8" midbass that fits in my doors, handles a lot of power, and both seem to sound identical at my local stereo shop.

Either one will cost slightly over a $1000 (authorized dealer) however

we had a guy bring in some DLS to have us install in his G35, and i really wasn't a big fan of their sound.

i've never heard a set of morels either though....if i had to choose i'd say the morels over the dls. guess i'll just stick with my focals and try to find a set of utopias

I was thinking of the Utopia's also but their 3 ways does not have 8" midbass, that's the only reason why I don't use an actual "subwoofer" in the trunk.
Also i wasn't too crazy about the K2 power, because it couldn't handle much power, and I'm afraid to blowing them, they sound great though.

unless you're gonna push 200 watts per channel, you won't blow up a set of K2P's. they want 150 RMS each, i know they make an expansion pack onto the K2P which adds in the larger midbass and crossover.

I am pushing 200 watts/ch, in fact its probably over 200 watts/ch. My amp is rated at 200x4rms
I'm planing on bi-amping the 3-ways (200 wrms to mid/highs and 200 wrms to midbass).

i know for a fact that the K2P's can handle 150 RMS all day long. we've done tons of the running off of JL 300/2's and only when the amps decide to go out do the speakers blow

f' bi amping. bridge it if you can, that's the way to go. I have a set of diamond d971 and i was orginally bi amping them with a d7054, sounded good, but i jsut needed more. so i bridged the amp and called it a day. i can officially say that bi amping is not worth the "sq" you get out of it.

if i remember correctly kicker also makes an add on for 8" mid bass.....

back on topic, i would go with the morel.

on a side not, i absolutely hate the utopias...... never found a car that they sounded good in.

good luck on your choice.

I'd go for the Morels first. They license patents from Dynaudio. Good stuff.
