GS400 head unit w/ navigation upgrade question
Hello everybody,
I'm new to Club Lexus and love it so much! I'm not sure if this has been asked before (it probably has) but any help any of you may provide will be greatly appreciated.
I have a 1998 GS 400 that came with the navigation system. I am interested in upgrading factory radio but fear damaging the stock navigation system which also allows access to CD changer/ climate control/ and other misc functions. Has anyone here done this before. Additionally, can the existing screen be modified to display video from a VCP or tuner source? Are there any reputable shops in NJ that can take care of these types of modifications?
I appreciate any help you may be able to provide a newbie.
Thanks again,
Manuel

Just do a search on the site. . .these questions have been answered in many threads before.
I had a 98 gs4 with Navigation and now I have a 2001 gs430 with Navigation and Levinson. In my 98, I ran power and a turn on lead to the trunk, added an amp, and gave the sub more power. It gave me a little more low end volume, and it was kind of fun, but it had turn on/off thumps I never got rid of, and I took it out to sell the car. There are devices to eliminate the turn on thumps and noise. . .I just lost interest toward the end of the lease.
A lot of people on this forum have gone crazy with systems. . .and we all universally agree the first thing to do in a situation where you can't change the head unit is upgrade the speakers all around. My 98 was a lease and I didn't want to do that. I bought my 2001, but I also paid over $5000 for the stock system in it, so I'm waiting for now to play.
