I saw a navigation system on a 99 GS400 with the navigation of a 01-05... the nice big screen...

so Im wondering how could it be done? isnt the brain different?
what else has to be done? is it as simple as switching the headunit and the brain in the trunk? or is there a lot more to it?

 

ALOT MORE. its more $ than its worth just go to a simple aftermarket one.

you'd have to change the nav ecu,screen,and most importantly the COMPLETE wiring harness's and i still doubt it would be that simple.

actually I did search. but never saw anything answering the specific question "how could 98-2000 OEM navigation be upgraded to 01-05 OEM navigation."

only, how could a non nav GS be upgraded to have a OEM navi.

so the wiring harnesses are different from the 98- 2000 navigation units?
interesting, i wish i knew the guy. to ask him

 

there is a post and a guy on here who upgraded FROM 1998-2000 nav unit to a 2001+ one....

biggest obstacle is the $ for what you spend on this you could get a better single or double din aftermarket nav unit
