Rear Entertainment System
I have a new GX 470 and am having trouble figuring out the Rear entertainment system. Can I control the DVD from the front screen or do I always have to use the remote? Can I play a DVD in the rear and at the same time listen to music in the front? I would appreciate it if someone could help.
Thanks

hi, and welcome
(1) the factory RSES is designed with safety limitations. you can view the DVD on the front nav screen only when stopped and parking brake engaged. when the picture is on the screen, you also have the ability to control the DVD menu by touch screen. when you are moving, the only way to control the RSES is by remote.
note - there is information on the GX forum that allows you to "hack" the system to allow a front passenger to watch DVDs while you drive and also control the RSES from the front (important if you have little ones in the back who cannot operate the remote). i performed the hack on my RX and it works great, no adverse effects.
(2) if you want to listen to music on the speakers, you can do so, however then the rear passengers much wear the wireless headsets to listen to the DVD. the other nice feature is that the RSES controls the audio inputs from the front too. so if you are on a long road trip and rear passengers want to listen to CDs and you want to listen to radio, that is possible.

Thanks for the info. I do have a 2 year old who must watch Barney. Obviously she cannot use the remote and I dont think she'll take to the headphones. But Ill give it a try.
