Speaker box question???
I have a 92' SC400 and I want some pretty decent bass in my ride. The guy at my local stereo shop told me that he could build me a custom box for my trunk with a piece of tubing that would go behind my gas tank and up through the hole where my factory sub was..........This all sounded well and fine until he said $700 w/o the sub!!! My question is......Can I get decent bass with just a single enclosure in the trunk?(...they told me this would sound crappy!!!) And if so, which type of enclosure would be best(....and what sub would you recommend)? Thanks a lot!!!
I think if you just removed your stock sub so the bass can travel from your trunk inside and replaced it with a 12" or 2 in a sealed box depending on the amount of bass you want it would sound good. Keep in mind the quality of the bass your going to get will depend on the equipment you buy.

But, as Tony said, it all depends on how much bass you want. I pre-fabbed box with one or two 10's or 12's and the stock sub removed will be a HUGE improvement.

i have been toying with a custom down firing enclosure for the sc. either 2 12s or 2 10s. it will have ports that will lead to the stock sub opening. i wanted to make it down firing to have a clean look. as well as protecting the subs from junk in the trunk....LOL... and it will have a stealth look. i was thinking about selling them for 200 a piece. but i dunno if there is a market for it out there. but if your interested PM me and ill see if i can make one.

What this shop wants to build for you is either a fifth-order bandpass box or a tunnel box the price is about $300 dollars more than what it should be and also it is a box that must be built to specs which means not every sub is perfect for this application ,also the tank in the sc dont leave much room for that kind of set up unless you want to give up your trunk space. I dont know if you car has performance mods but I suggest doin a fiberglass tub enclosure in the spare tire well with 3 ten inch subs it will hit hard and less weight as opposed to a bulky mdf box
