Default Subwoofer questions!

Does anyone know how big i need to make the box and possibly the formula in how to figure it out.

I have a w6v2 12'' want to build a sub box for my trunk.

Any help is awesome.

Thanks,

Have you checked this out? http://www.4080enclosures.com/shop40...sp?idProduct=9 I'm going to pull the trigger on that enclosure, a 12W6v2 and 500/1v2.

you need like 2.82 cubic feet of air space for that sub, less if you want a ported box.

2.82? 1.3 should be enough. anything more than 1.5 is unused space and will give your sub a weak, hollow sound. don't go ported on a 12w6v2. many(including myself) have tried this, and have been very disappointed with the sound quality. go *sealed, and go 1.3. i guarantee you will not be disappointed in the results

definitely a good choice, i have one on my car as well, and the sound quality is remarkable. if you're an audiophile, get this box, it is well worth it. and again, the box is only about 1.3 cubic feet of space.

here's from the jl w6 manual.:

even with a ported enclosure, it is not recommended to go any more than 1.5 cubic feet.

joekerm, did you remove your stock sub? I don't know much about car audio, but thought maybe the bass would be "cleaner" without it. Plus I hear it opens up the trunk to the main cabin, allowing more bass to get through. Anyone know?

I heard and read the exact opposite. Sealed = better sound quality. Ported = louder.
