Mac Amp Question
Some time ago, Percy posted that at least some new McIntosh amps would accept line level inputs. The Mac labs page isn't very helpful but I can't confirm that this ever happened or happened on which models. Anyone have any current info on which, if any Mac amps would accept speaker level inputs. Makes upgrading a bit simpler. Thanks.
The latest info was on Car Audio and Electronics 2001 guide published a few months ago. Otherwise, check the older threads for more info on the model numbers. Mc (and other companies) has a tendency to release info and then decide not to build it. Phoenix Gold did the same thing with one of their amps also.
Otherwise, just use a line level converter and one of their "older" amps. Works the same.

Thanks Percy,
I was just trying to reduce the number of boxes running around. I am slowly getting ready to upgrade my stock GS and want to get everything together and plan out the install as much as I can. I don't figure anyone is going to get excited about how it works out but I feel reasonably competent to tackle it and, for me, it's therapeutic. Going to go with Dyns, haven't figured out the sub replace just yet, but I am wrenching over putting an amp in while everything is apart. I would prefer an amp that accepts line level inputs but SQ is important. Mean Gene has posted that Audio Control seems to be the popular line level converter, at least on this board. Do you, or anyone, have any input on setting these up? I understand that the preferred option is an adjustable line level converter but any input that could be provided on setting the LLC relative to the head unit output and possible amp adjustments would be appreciated. Not an immediate problem, still planning things out although anyone who has replaced their stock speakers in a GS and would like to sell them (or at least the outer plastic mounting baffle), let me know, I want to get a jump on cutting the baffles for the Dyns.
Thanks,
