Navigation: DVD Update
Supposedly my new GS430 came off the boat on the 14th. Should be here "any day now" I promise I'll look immediately and let you guys know what version it is when the car comes. When I pick up the car the first question I'm going to ask is if the navigation is the newest version of the dvd available right now and make them upgrade it if its not. I test drove a 2002 on the 28th of Feb that the dealer said had 'just' come in and if I remember right the revision on that one was 2001.1
How is the DVD removed from the unit in the trunk?
I moved the slider to the "Open" position & the door to the DVD opened, but nothing further happened. I tried it with ignition on & off. I felt around all sides of the unit for an eject button, but found none. I even checked the manual ... no luck there either.

Perhaps next year... But I think version 2001 is very reasonable, provided that we are still moving towards middle of 2002. As long as the database is up-to-date, I believe that's all that matters.

My Navigation update DVD arrived today. Installed it myself (thanks to hleo for his guidance) in less than 5 minutes.
Canada is there. A missing exit on the Ohio Turnpike is now shown. Most, but not all of erroneous local POI' s have been corrected.
My Parts Manager says that the price is $499.00. I got it free due to negotiations at the time I bought the car.

It's very simple to install the DVD-based navigation update.
1. Start your car, or you can just turn the Ignition key to the "On" position.
2. Locate the navigation system unit (usually in the trunk compartment).
3. Push the button or slide it first, then your old dvd nav disc will pop out.
4. Insert the new DVD update disc.
5. *IMPORTANT*. All these times, DO NOT TURN OFF YOUR CAR, At least keep the ignotion key to "On" position.
6. The Nav system will automatically update itself for about 1-2 minutes. The screen in the car will also remind you to keep the car On.
7. You're done! Congrats! Ready to be used. You can just toss away your old Nav disc, 'cause all the Lexus Nav system can only read the current version and newer, not older. So you have no use at all with the old dvd nav disc.
