Default Installing a Nav with Nak amps?

Hey,
Ive been looking into buying an in dash nav for my 98Lex GS4 and I was just about to buy one when the installer told me that he would bypass my stock amp and combine some of speakers to come from the same channel.
I think my car has 9 speakers, including the sub which are all powered by the stock Nakamichi Amp. If I install a Pioneer D1 or Eclipse 5435 is there a way to tap into the stock amp or do I have to buy all new amps to run it properly?
Is there a how-to diagram somewhere for this?
Any help would be appreiciated!
Thanks!

yes there is a way to keep your nak amp.stay in the oem toyota lexus family. a toyota camry navigation system would work fine ,. it has an analog output and has the beep signal for the nak amp to work. you cannot use lexus es300 or es330 nav system because they have digital output. the cd changer also could be controlled by the toyota camry headunit by using a y adapter on the cd changer port. the camry nav is made by same company as the ecilpse but the toyotas ability to talk to the headunit and control the cd changer make it a far superior choice.than aftermarket. of course the aftermarket company will want you to go eclipse so they can sell you new high watt amps and speakers which sound worse than factory and also with all the rattles and dead batteries they cause. more ........................................................................................................ they make a doulble din gs faceplatre adapter now for the 98 up gs headunit which could be made to work with the toyota camry headunit. work. i have installed many factory gs navigation systems from 1998 up even 2nd genration 2001 gs nav system in a first genration 1998 gs. but all the factory gs nav radios put out a digital signal so thats why even in 98 you couldnt order a navigation system with nakamichi.. in 2001 the nak replacement mark levinsin amp puts out a digital signal so the nav system can be ordered either way pioneer or mark levinsin. the pioneer amp has 5 output chanells the mark levinsin has 10. with seperate tweeter outputs. they are both made by pioneer. the 2005 service manual finally has the levinsin amp with a pioneer part number.

I think your best bet is too get youself some aftermarket amps to power up your speakers. If you wanna do it right then you should also replace your OEM speakers.

I am not real sure if this will work for your application but I will let you know what a buddy and I did for his 98 SC4 with nak.

He found a place that sold an adapter harness. We were able to use the 4ch pre outs on a new Alpine unit to feed preout voltage to the nak factory amps. He was then able to use the sub preout on the Alpine to feed an aftermarket amp and sub.

With that said I am not too familiar with the nak sub part. If it's signal is derived from the main 4ch then it should work but if the factory head has a separate output and then a separate amp you would have to run two of these convertors.

NOTE: this is NOT a line level convertor. It simply converts RCA preouts to the factory car harness (which expects preout voltage). He bought this adapter instead of the normal lexus pigtail harness adapter.

Let me know if you have any questions and tomorrow I will see if he can remember where he bought it from. I think it was like $20 on the internet somewhere. Oh and it sounds VERY good.
