Default Hardwire a Valentine One

Has anyone done this? Thinking of tapping power in the overhead console, through the lights or sunroof power wires. Can anyoone tell me which wires I should tap into? Is it difficult to lower the console to gain access to the wires? Any instructions? Anything to beware of?

Thanks in advance,

I had mine hardwired directly into the fuse panel using the Valentine hardwire kit. Shop cost was $45; and 1 hour. This is standard pricing, so if you know somebody you can probably get it cheaper. For me this was a better option since it was cheap and was using the official hardwire kit which includes an outlet for the concealed display.

I hardwired my Passport 8500 directly to the fusebox as well. I think I tapped into the fuse that supplies power to the power outlet in the dash using the hardwiring kit.

It works great. Make sure if you go the professional installation route that you place the radar where you will want to put it so they know how long to run the cord. When I remove my detector, I just tuck the wire behind the mirror.

It's really not that hard and I'm not sure you really need professional installation. Mine's mounted just below my rearview mirror and when I remove the detector, I tuck the wire as well.

THe wire runs just above the headliner, down the driver's side A-pillar down to the fusebox. Very clean and no visible wires showing.

Took me maybe 30 minutes.

DB6,

I did the hardwire install on my RX by tapping into the power for the day/night mirror. I used all the hardwire components that came with the V-1 including the twin phone plug and the connector that lets you tap into an existing power wire without cutting it.

Here's the details on how I installed it on the RX.

Here's what it looks like next to the XM Roady 2 that's located in the sunglasses holder.

Hope that helps.

Hardwired mine from high left on drivers side to the ashtray, where I mounted the remote display. You can close it up and never see it, not to mention the alarm still works so all you have to do is press the V1 volume button and it goes to mute. No wires seen and all power comes from the fuse panel so it is protected.
