car sub + amp in home stereo system?

is it possible to hook up a car subwoofer + amp to a home stereo system or computer? sorry if this has already been asked before, i did a search and came up empty-handed.

you can do it but you need a special power inverter to use the amp.

Hey - They make special 'plate' amps for subs... dont mess with crappy 120vt -> 12vt power convertors.... total waste AND.... the price would be rediculous for one that put out high enough amperage to run a descently powered car amplifier. You can check out plate amps (designed for 8 and 4 ohm subs (reguardless if they are for car or home). Check out http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage....up_ID=505&SO=2

Anyways - Thats my .02 cents... i have a dual 2 ohm Diamond 8" sub in a ported box... with a 70watt plate amp..... and it kicks! you wouldnt belive the incredable power from a 8" sub.... way better that some of the 4-500 setups... I'm not saying its the end all best setup... but man for the price ... less than a hundred bucks.... its amazing, i cant imagine wanting anything with more bass....
