I was in the process of connecting my ipod by conneting and rca cable to the laft and right channels on the back of the head unit. But instead of connecting the the left and right audio i connected the power and there was a spark i corrected it and reconected the power, however my headunit would not turn and my number 20 fuse was blown that is the one controlling the head unit. I will be replacing the fuse tomarrow do u think that the head unit was blown as well or just the fuse.
BTW He says that he's tried some different fuses (higher and lower ratings) and all those blew. Hopefully once the same fuse is put it, it will work right.
good luck with that. sounds like you need a professional to take a look at that or someone thats installed before. I don't understand why in the world you would be hooking up anything that had to do with rca's or audio input and output, that you would need to cut or splice into the power of the head unit

Well, no, not necessarily. A higher amp fuse should not blow that fast.

I've done it to my car, the ipod thing. He was putting it in and just cut the wrong side of wires...which happen to be the power wires instead of the speaker inputs from the CD changer.
ok i am not very happy right now i just bought a new fuse and it was blown the second i put it in. I don't no what to do now, i just hope i didn't create a serious porblem. Has anyone had a similar problem when fooling with the wireing on the headunit. Any input would be much appreciated.
Have you checked all your grounds, and if so, make sure that nothing is grounding that shouldn't be. Have you checked your power and ground are not switched.
I am not to fimiliar with grounding I no what you are talking about when you say that the power and ground might be switched, but how would i ground something thats not supposed to be, or what would be grounded, again I am not to knowlegable on wireing.
By this I mean are there any open bare wires that might be touching metal somewhere? Did you check the power/ground being switched - this is a usual culprit.
Alright I took my dash apart agian yesterday, I made shure everything was grounded it all was after i put some more electrical tape. So then while it was taken apart i put a new fuse in and i didn't blow i was so happy, but the headunit would not power on, so i thought maybe when i put it back together it will work some things are like that so i took the fuses back out and put the dash back togethere when i was done i put the fuse back in and it died again, i was so mad. I don't no what to do i really hope i did not kill it.
