installed backup camera to go with my avic-n1,added a spliter so i can capture video with my digital camcorder of any kill's,anyone trying to f--k with my car, the ideas keep coming, thinking of painting the metal housing to match my paint, what do you guys think?
it's a reversed image camera and water proof, bought it from ebay for about 40 bucks, picture looks good, took me about 3 hours to install and wire in, drilled a 1 inch hole where they key hole was, used alot of sealent on backend to prevent leaking, will upgrade camera to higher quality if this one goes out. will post some more shots, should of taken pictures as i was installing.
The cameras on ebay say that they have the diameter as big as the key holes, I guess they are bigger since you said you had to make the hole bigger with a fat 1" drill bit.
yeah the key hole on the lexus is smaller, a one inch hole made a perfect fit.
i was going to try to install the camera from behind the opening to prevent drilling but didn't what to limit my camera view.
I think it would look better if you painted it. The black does not stand out as much Just my $.02 I've seen some CL'ers that have the smaller camera and they put them behind the key hole no drilling. DaveGS4 and 00lexondub comes to mind and one of the SC guys
I just got an 06 GS, w/o the nav. I really wanted the backup camera, but didn't want to wait 4-6 months, and certainly didn't want to pay about $4000 for Nav/Levinson.
I was wondering if I could just get the camera (perhaps from an online lexus discounter) and install it. All the new GS have that same LCD display, and even the same screens (for the common things). I suspect that the wiring harnesses are the same regardless of whether or not you have the nav and/or camera. Perhaps in the trunk there is a capped connector to which the camera could be attached.
I had an Acura Legend (95) without the CD changer. I found that the trunk mounted CD connector was already there, and all I had to do was to buy the CD player, and plug it in - everything worked great, including the control and display on the dash, just as if I had bought the option.
