I have a 93 sc400. The key is worn out. I tried replacing the battery and it still wont unlock doors. Water damage maybe. I talked to lexus and they said keys are around $250. Wow, right? Well, i have seen them on ebay and such for 30-60 bucks. My question is can it be programed for my car and how much would i be looking at to have it cut and programmed. I know it depends where i go, but anyone know a ball park figure?
It is my understanding that you can purchase new keys from Lexus but they are not programmable to work on your car.
You have to program the car to the key program is the way I understand it works.
Anyone please correct me If I am wrong about this.
If you just need to get inside the car, I think Lexus has a wallet key that you can purchase for a lot cheaper. A valet key may also be an alternative.
No the keys are not capable of learning new codes.
The codes are programmed at the factory.
You must change the settings on the keyless entry in the car to accept new keys.
Best to contact your nearest Lexus dealer to confirm this.
