Default Key Problem for the Pros

Ok so I lost both master keys. I got a new one reprogrammed with my Valet key through a local locksmith. Someone stole that new key from me. So I went and bought Another key and had that one programmed with the valet key. Get this, the thief returned my key. Weird thing is when I went to go use that first one It would not start my car. The security light stays flashing and it wont start. I put the latest master key I had made in and it starts right up.

Could it be possible that when my second master key was made it took the place of my first one and now the first one has to be reprogrammed using my latest one?

Weird.

How was it reprogrammed? You can either add a key, I think up to 4, or you can wipe all keys and program in new ones.

I don't know what you mean by programmed with valet key?

Assuming you have an 02+ and these are "master keys" with a transponder chip?

I'd say
1. Check battery in nonworking key
2. Progam nonworking key (there's a diy)

That's probably what the locksmith did. Clear the old keys since they were stolen (would be common sense to do).. Would you want the thief or whomever took the keys to later come back and take the car next? No and that's why they were probably erased so the car wouldn't recognize them so that very incident wouldn't happen.

You'll need to have that key reprogrammed back to the car so it will be recognized again...

Also I wouldn't go about cranking the car with the old key as it's not recognized and may put the car in lock down mode meaning you would need to tow it to a dealer to unlock the car (so it will run again.)

I understand what you mean on he erased the previous keys. I didnt crank it much before I saw the security light. I reprogrammed my old key with the new master key and it works great now. So now I have two working master keys with buttons and a valet key that opens everything.

Funny even though it wouldnt start the car the buttons still worked for the doors
Thanks
