Question 04 Navigation/05 Navigation

The 05 Navigation is supposed to be 4th generation, I guess that means I have 3rd generation in my 04 RX. My question is - Should/Could the 05 CD bring my 3 generation up to 4th generation? I understand it will not be voice activated, or is that what makes it a 4th generation?

Where can one learn about the navigation system and updates available?

lx470atl,

I too am confused about the NAV. Am looking at an '04 LX and the dealer says it has the Gen 4 NAV system, but have heard it's only on the 2005 models. I would like to know for sure before I purchase and don't necessarily go by what the dealer says. One salesman told me that my SC430 had 430 horspower because "that's why it's named that!!!" I had to correct him. I wish he was correct!! Please help clarify if Gen 4 was on the 2004 LX or not. Thanks for anyone that can help!!!1

Generation 4 has bluetooth support. It also supports more voice commands. I think you can control the HVAC with voice commands.

Since we cannot get bluetooth support with a DVD upgrade, and I assume the new voice commands are part of the navigation computer (major assumption here), I wonder if it would be worth the cost to upgrade the navigation computer to generation 4.

It would be great if the DVD upgrade gave us the new voice commands, but I am not optimistic about it.

Anybody know what other features are new for Gen 4 Nav? Faster computer? What about 3D perspective view like Infiniti?

Nope, in fact it might screw up your navigation system.

Yes, both the 2004 and 2005 LX have the Gen 4 navigation system.

It is faster, you can search by phone number or GPS coordinates, 75ft scale detailed map data and building shapes in some cities, improved graphics, many more POIs, sattelite radio support are some of the major changes.
