Default Mod your engine? pffffft - Mod out your stock stereo...

You know how there are codes in video games where you can get infinite lives and infinite ammo for your guy in a video game?

Check out this special mod that was written over a 1.5 years ago on how to mod out your stock pioneer system to crank up the bass!

I tried the code on my 98 ES and it took me into the diagnostic mode but my car is a little different than the GS. It was cool that the code worked but I couldn’t do anything which really sucks. I became excited and hopeful that my stock stereo could sound better than it already does.
Maybe someone can help me out. The display showed “1-190” when I entered the code. By pushing my cd forward it then displayed “2-360”. I pushed all sorts of different buttons hoping that it would do something but my screen just displayed “code” and “sys”. I think it was pretty ballsy of me to push all these buttons not knowing what they would do, but at the end of it all they didn’t do anything (I don’t think).
I guess the GS just has better perks than the forgotten ES. Oh well, enjoy it fellas!

Could one of you audiophiles fiddle with this function and let us tone deaf folks know what are good settings?

You need to hold down the AM button for 4 seconds after the 1-190 appears.

Bummer. FWIW, I tried the F=13 R=13 W=0 setting that one guy in that thread liked and it seriously lowered my max volume. I went back to all 0 settings. It didn't sound any better to me.

I tried it on my GS300 but it went to a screen "P190" when keep pressing the up & down button, it shows "GOOD" -> "P360" -> "GOOD" -> "P440" -> "GOOD", then go back to "P190".

I have no idea what's that mean and I can't esc back to normal until turn off the car.

Any idea?

Does anyone know if a similar hack exists for the Nakimichi system?

EEEGGGGcceellent post!! I just did this on my 98 GS400, and found that F5 R5 seems to be a very pleasing raise in bass response, without any sacrifice of sound quality or overall volume.

Thanks!!
