Hey everyone...I just bought a beautiful 1992 SC 400 yesterday with the "premium" Nakamichi system with the cassette/ 12 CD changer original equipment package. The front speakers work great, but when the fader is directed to the rear speakers to test the base, they are muffled and not very well amplfied. I was wondering if there is a preamp or fuse problem, or are the rear speakers blown due to sun exposure through the years? The car has been covered and garaged during it's previous life. How do I test this and, if there is an amplifier, where is it normally located? Thanks in advance for the info.
without doin any testing, and from ur description.... its possible the back speakers are old and even rotted out (the rubber surround etc) from the sun. since its all stock there cant be any sound waves interfering from a sub in the trunk, (sometimes the movement of an aftermarket sub in a trunk will cause the rear deck speakers to move out of line)
id take out the speakers and inspect them for wear, and replace with aftermarket ones
Thanks...I'll check it out. Also, I'll check for corrosion on the cell phone mute line corrosion. I doubt that I'll find any since the trunk is spotless with no signs of water leakage....I'll be in touch...thanks again
i have a 92 sc300 but i think the sound systems are the same, the sub amp is on the rear deck on the left side.
now is the music cut off compleatly or do you hear the music but with strong distortion.
it could also be a bad amp or a bad speaker, to test it remove the rear deck lid to gain access to the speakers, then on the left there will be a little amp, there should be a plug there, take it off, now run a extra piece of wire from one of the working speakers to the sub, if the sub plays then you have a bad amp, if it does'nt double cheak or change the speaker
