Default Someone has to....Darn it!!!

Ok....my 2000 GS300 came w/o the nav option. I am a "gadget" guy...or so my girlfriend tell me, so I want to put an aftermarket nav/dvd/etc system in.

I looked at doing OEM, but I dont think the $10,000 it would cost, would be wise investment. I might as well buy some crack!

MY BIG LONG QUESTION is this:

I dont want want a pop up or motorized screen....I would like a screen that sits like the oem. In the dash itself. Isnt there anyone who has ideas on who would or could do this? I want to keep it looking as close to oem without any cheap plastics!

I figured id sart here, then go nag any So Cal stereo stores.

Please, I appreciate any input.

Thanks

Default I HAVE ! Dig It !

Welcome to Clublexus. I see this is your first post.

First off, please use the search function as it is quite helpful.

Second, look for the correct forum to post your questions as I'm sure this one will get moved.

Third, here's what I did: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...=flush+monitor

If you have any questions about it, please respond to that thread instead of this one.

Enjoy

Ah man, I am in the same boat as you. Well lucky for us double din import guys, kenwood and eclipse have come out with two new Dvd players/in dash screens.

Here they are:

First off, the one I hope to get after the summer,

Kenwood Excelon DDX7015

by the way, the picture is quite excellent, it seems a little pixalated in these pictures:

Info stolen from:

Crutchfield

Key Features:
double-DIN (4" tall) chassis
motorized faceplate with 6.5" LCD video monitor
touch screen controls
graphical user interface
plays DVDs (stationary use only), CDs, CD-Rs, CD-RWs, and MP3 discs
dual-zone capable
SIRIUS controls (SIRIUS Radio subscription, tuner, and antenna required to receive the satellite radio signal) — service is available only in the lower 48 states, not available in Alaska, Hawaii, or U.S. territories
System Q EX Sound Control with 7 highly-adjustable EQ curves and selectable speaker type settings
System E's+ Advanced Crossover with adjustable high- and low-pass crossovers

Second off:

Eclipse AVN Units:

Eclipse has put out three new double din units that range from 1500-3500.

They have the low end (which is still quality stuff) which has dvd player...bla bla...

AVX 2404

Mid end which has a 20 gig hard-drive, built in surround proccessor,
AVX 2494

High end which has built in navigation.

AVN 2454

Oh did i mention, all of the units are touchscreen? (Even the kenwood) Gotta love that!

My suggestion, head on over to http://www.eclipse-web.com/ and find out which one you want. Personally I would pick the 2404, but thats mainly because of the high price of the other units.

Hopes this helps you out, because seeing these two units sure helped me picking one of these over a flip out display that would block my AC vents.

Well, Eclipse is very private about where you can purchase their items, so normally you have to go to a eclipse dealer, something like car-toys or something.

Kenwood, you can buy online, even at that crutchfield site.

The kenwood goes around for 1000 on the internet, 1400 retail.

The eclipse is 1400 retail also for the low end

The kenwood for 1000 you can get it on the net. That includes dvd player, cd player ect. To hook up navigation, your looking at another grand for a kenwood navi system, because they make it where you have to use their navi system.

dont they have screens that pulsate now to feel like your actually pushing a button?
Icon-TV has true HDTV monitors now too

just to broaden up your choice.

sup guys yea im in the same situtation as you guys , didnt want the screen to popout out of the dash -

Over the past couple of days Ive been doing some searching on these Double-Din TouchScreensand like Blue98Gs3 said kenwood and Eclipse are the only ones that i came up with -

I dont really like the kenwood because of the GUI, That Eclipse AVN2454 looks hot and i think is the best for the money

I wish i would i found this thread earlier - Check out this thread AVN2454 Info/Pics
Has all the Info I got on this Eclipse Unit with a couple of install pics
The Eclipse Website has very little info on their screens....

Like Dave said I would also like to know if this can fit in our GS's ( i asked alot of questions in the other thread, guess it was in the wrong spot )

Now As far as getting one of these Eclipse (AVN2454)Units - They are very hard to get and you will be paying over retail for them - one of these units just sold on ebay for $1900 - A STEAL
They are going for around $2500

Oh yea RMMGS4 setup is off the hook
