The CD player in my 2001 IS 300 recently stopped working. It won't eject any discs and all cd's won't play, giving me an error message. When I explained the problem to my dealer the first response was to question if I was playing cd's that had been burned as the cd player in the IS and the SC did not like them for some reason. As I have over 60K miles I was told that the only solution was to buy a new head unit. Any one out there have such a problem and if so any other suggetions besides spending $500? thanks
They actually are very easy to fix. First you remove the unit, then take the screws off the top of the cage. Pop the metal cage off and just remove the cd's with a butter knife or something, but be careful not to scratch the cds. Then it will work fine again.
thanks for the response. I asked the parts department for the lexus esploded image of the dash, etc. so i could remove it myself but they would not share that info and told me to go buy a service book. Is there a place to get these kind of lexus documents?
vlad_a, I liked your response but couldn't get to the .net site, will try tomorrow. Not to sound like too much of a pollyana, but where would i find people selling the head unit and how do i avoid buying someone else's broken system? thank you.

Try .net.
It is usually up and running.
There is a forum section that is dedicated to members selling/trading items. Browse through the selling section. You may need to have 30 posts to be able to participate in those sections. You can always PM a person.
There is no guarantee against a broken system. Someone with numerous posts would be less likely to sell a broken one.
At any rate, it is easy to fix yours.
BTW, if your IS has less than 50K miles, it is still under full warranty. A dealer must replace it for you. Be sure to put masking tape on the dash area round the CD Changer and A/C controls prior to taking it in to avoid scratches. I've put it all in the above mentioned instructions.
I am going to be installing my aftermarket Clarion Flip Deck shorly. I would be willing to sell you my deck. The car only has 13K miles and the changer/deck is in great condition. Let me know@
if its a stock deck and its jammed... lexus will replace it under warranty.
but if you haven't already tried this... go disconnect ur battery for a few seconds... then reconnect and see if that fixes ur problem. it has worked several times for me. this was actually the advice of my service consultant at Lexus
