Default Nav Display question

I have '99 GS4 with OEM Nav. Recently I have found that when I drive for a few hours, the display changes colors a little and I also start getting various types of static. Sometimes its vertical bars going from top to bottom. Other times I just get a little static. These would be similar to what use to happen in old TVs when someone used a hair dryer. I'm not if it's due the display being old or some electronic filter that needs replacement. Thanks for your feedback.

The color change is not the day / night modes. It's not even a color change. It's like looking at an LCD display at a slight angle. The dark colors turn even darker. More like the contrast kind of goes out of whack. It's a little hard to describe. Funny thing is that this most often happens when in night mode.

The color change is most likely the flourescent backlight warming up. Some LCD screens exhibit this more than others, for example our Honda navigation is almost unreadable when starting up cold. After the navigation is on for a while it's back up to normal color. The Lexus display is the same, but not as extreme like others. The static probably has nothing to do with your brightness of display, unless the low brightness is masking the static. The static may indicate you have a bad (or going bad) LCD panel or even bad connection with the navigation computer. While you won't be able to do much about a bad LCD other than replace it, you can check your connectors for the display and navigation computer. Clean if necessary.
