Lightbulb SC300/400 Custom Trunk project

I want to know if any one has done this project? If so what material did they use? I was think of putting to 10 inch speakers into the wheel well. First cover the spare wheel slot in RaMMat/Dynomat. Then cut out a wood board the size of the trunk and cut the speakers outline so they could be mounted. I dont know if I should put the RaMMat/Dynomat of the board to limit vibration? Then Cut through the Lexus carpet and put a grill over the speaker! The amp will be mounted under the speaker deeper in the spare wheel slot. Does this sound like a good plan? Just want some opinions slash suggestions on ways to make this better or should i do it at all?

if Im reaading correctly, you are wanting to put your 10 inch sub in the spare tire well right? To do this properly you will need to make a fiberglass mold of the well and then fabricate a top. In other words, a bunch of custom work. Also, depending on your woofer, the amount of airspace in the well could be wrong for your speaker. If you are not concerned about space, I would make a regular box and leave the spare in. Aslo, mounting the amp in in/under the box is a bad idea. It will over heat due to insufficient airflow.

So do you want to put the amp on the bottom of the trunk well, block that off and put an enclosure over that for the subwoofer? I would advise against that... amps heat up. If I were to do the sub in the location you specified, I would definitely fiberglass it. it needs to be airtight. I would also do the board in 3 pieces (covered in grey carpeting, so don't cut that carpeting). a center piece for the sub and 2 side pieces so it would be easier to remove the floor if you need to. i'm not sure how many cu ft the trunk well is, but off the top of my head, it should be fine for most 10s.

for that type of sub enclosure, i would fiberglass the area, make a circular ring out of mdf that would be sit inside the floor well and be flush (or maybe a few mm above for padding) with the trunk floor, fiberglass this ring with the enclosure and use t screws to attach the ring/fiberglass combo with the center floor piece. this way you can still have an airtight enclosure and put something under the wood floor that would limit vibration.

Philly - What you're describing (except for placing the amp in the enclosure) has been done thousands of times on other cars, so it is certainly feasible. I love RAAMMat, but I would not put any on the baffle board to stiffen it up- better to just brace any large areas with another strip of glued MDF, like shown below. If you want to really read up on the subject and see hundreds of examples, go to www.sounddomain.com.
