How can Lexus Japan do a build order without the specs for the car I ordered? Perhaps it is all done with codes. I'm a happy owner of an RX 350 (except for the voice recognition....nonexistent). Any advice would be appreciated, especially from someone that has gone through the process of ordering a car to be built
Did you do a "bespoke" build?

Before "bespoke" -- which is only on the LC500 coupe, and then is mainly for buyers to pick unique interior/exterior color and wheel combinations -- you didn't order a custom-built car from Lexus. Lexus builds a number of cars with different options combinations based on what they predict demand to be, allocates those cars to different dealers around then country then your dealer finds you the one that most closely matches the options that you want. Your dealer trades with that other dealer for their allocation, the car is sent to your dealer then you take delivery.

I "ordered" my '21 LC500 Convertible in July of '21, my dealer found it already built but waiting to be shipped from Japan. My dealer traded with the other dealer to get my car, then it shipped from Japan to my dealer over the next ~8-10 weeks. I took delivery in early October.

If you didn't do a "bespoke build" and your Lexus salesperson doesn't have any information about your build, then it likely means that your salesperson is waiting for one to pop up with your specific combination of colors / options. There's a non-trivial chance that the unique combination of what you asked for will never be built. The majority of LC500's built last year were convertibles, that will likely remain the trend going forward.

If this is the first time you're hearing about the "bespoke" process, then you'll want to call your dealer and mention it specifically. If they aren't familiar with the Lexus Bespoke process, make sure they do some research. Then make sure your car went in through the bespoke process.

If it didn't, you're basically waiting for Toyota to decide to build your exact car, which may never happen. Good luck!

Default LC 500 ordered in Novmeber of 2021

Still don't have the car I ordered in November of 2021 that according to the dealer had an order number of xxx. Yes 3 digits. They called yesterday (5/31/22) to inform me that my car has now been ordered. What? Yes it is now ordered and has an order number of yyy. Yes 3 digits. OK. Something seems to be happening. I'm excited so I ask, when will it be made/shipped/delivered. Answer............No idea. Maybe 4 months. What does 'ordered' mean? Any help would be appreciated.

Something strange happening here, I ordered my bespoke build on 8 Dec 2021. Was assigned a production slot and the dealer kept me in the loop as much as they can these days. They told me 4 to 5 months and the car arrived on 15 May. Was your order a bespoke build??

Hi ThreePutt: Had one of those today and an eagle from 80 yards......anyway. This question has never been properly answered. In November they said nothing about bespoke. Then someone on the forum used the term and I asked about it and was told 'it's not necessary, your car is ordered'. I have contacted Lexus national and have gotten no help. Thinking about contacting Warren Buffett as it seems Berkshire Hathaway owns Superstition Lexus in Mesa AZ.

Bespoke builds have a badge near the shifter indicating such.

I thought you were asking if you had a bespoke build. I may have misunderstood.

Update on the order: It is now 9 months since I ordered the car 11/18/21. The only news during that period was the change of the order number in May 2022. I called the dealer yesterday to ask if I would be getting a 2022 or a 2023. They said I would definitely get a 2022 but they have no other information about the cars status. Does anyone know when the last of the 2022s will be built and the 2023 will take over?

If your vehicle hasn't even started to be built yet there is almost no way it will be a 2022....Aug/Sep is when they usually change over.

There was a request for a deposit on my credit card and I was told the order would be placed, which was confirmed with me by the salesperson roughly 10 days later. After that I just pretty much waited, without much communication from the dealership, until I received a phone call about 3 and 1/2 months later that the car had a VIN and was ready to be shipped from Japan. It arrived at the dealership just over a month after that last phone call. It took a total of just under 5 months (from July 2021 until December 2021) for it to arrive after placing the order. I agree that as difficult as it may be, patience is a virtue, and despite the lack of communication from the dealership, your vehicle should arrive. Then again sometimes I am too trusting.
nice & congrats. curious: what price were you able to negotiate it down to? close to inv pricing by chance or what % discount off MSRP? how much deposit did you put on your CC?

In November of 2021, they wanted 5K over invoice. I assume that at the time they had no cars to sell and added 5K or more to all the cars. In my case they just said that so that I could get them down to MSRP and that's what I paid. Is anyone going to pay over invoice for a car they are ordering? Only 1K down.
