Default Cross shopping the LC

Hey fellow LC owners,

I've been thinking about trading in my GSF for a LC, and I'm wondering if anyone has cross shopped the LC with other cars prior to your purchase. Have you guys considered the 650/8 series or E/S class coupe/convertibles? Reliability aside, they have a V8 twin turbo, awd, better tech, a bigger trunk, and a more usable backseat. What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

SolidG1, i suspect those other vehicles cost more than the LC if that's a consideration.

the LC is a unique vehicle for sure. in many ways it's "old school". no touch screen. no turbo(s). 1 cup holder (+ a square thingy ). a digital gauge cluster with a moving mechanical wheel on top but many great aspects too... some very cool mechanical build options like the torsen limited slip diff and rear steering. exquisite build quality that should last and last and last. and of course a unique sexy design unlike anything else.

The design is absolutely unique and stunning, but I'm not sure about the rear end. When I look at it from the back and 3/4 from the rear, it doesn't seem to flow nor is it aggressive enough. And it does seem small for a grand tourer, about the size of a Supra.

As for lasting long, yea no doubt, but I wonder how long I can keep it before I'm forced to return to something more practical like my 4 door GSF with a big trunk.

Can the LC really be a daily throughout the year, or is it more of a weekend car? It's hard to say until I start using it I guess.

I have test-driven so many vehicles in the last 5 months--new Bentley Conti GTC, new Lexus LC500 Coupe, new MBZ E53 AMG & S-Class 'verts, RR & Range Rover Sport Autobiographies, new BMW M4, M8, Porsche 911, Turbo, & Turbo S, Lambo Huracan, Ferrari 458 Spider, and many many Cali and Cali T's to daily drive, which, since I workfrom home only means 4-6k miles per year.

Although I could afford any of those vehicles I ultimately ordered an LC 500 Convertible.

Ordering a 2021 MBZ E 53 AMG vert was a close second, if you care.

Im in the same boat. Although I havent driven any of the rides I am considering (because Im in Asia for the past 18 months and havent gottne behind the wheel of anyhting) I have narrowed myself down to two. A 2020/21 E63S or the LC Coupe or the Convert. Here is my analysis so far:

1. The cost of all three cars is similar equipped the way I want it. I think it worked out to about 15K in favour of the Lexis. But I think I can do better on working a dealer on the Benz. Tie. But see 4 below.

2. Looks. LC Coupe, LC Convert and the E63 in that order. On the other hand, I can stealth the E63 a lot better, perfect for the humiliation of youngsters and wise guys. Winner LC by a hair.

3. Power. E63S. Winner, but scary

4. Luxury and Technology: E63S. Plus its a AWD, which could obviate me from buying a 4x4, which I would probably have to do with the LC. Winner.

5. Looks. Ooopps again? LC

6. Reliability. Benzes can be a PITA but they will take a beating before breaking. Lexis take a beating and dont break. I think any rational person will agree that Lexus vehicles are probably the most reliable luxury cars. Winner Lexus

7. Value. Im an old man so I could drive off the lot and keel over. But I could make it a few more. Which one is gonna be worth more for my brat in 5 years. 10 years? It looks like LCs depreciate more, but if I go convertible? Plus the limited number of LCs? Decision: I cant decide.

8. Did I say looks?

9. Aftermarket: MB offers their own dash cam for gods sake.....

Im gonna be in Asia for several more months so have time to decide. I guess its gonna be drive time when I get back.

LOL! Life's that simple, really. No need to overthink.

The BMW M850 is a great direct comp (both lux large GT 2 dr coupes), maybe not as nice looking but more powerful/faster and much better lease deals. Other than the OP has anyone else considered one?

After eleven years when I finally decided it was time to sell my ISF, The LC was the only vehicle I considered. RCF, maybe, but quickly dismissed. Number one reason - I'm an NA guy. A blown motor is not in my DNA. My ISF was the most reliable car I have ever owned. Even with FBO, wheels & tires, and a myriad of other things I did to make it "better". I expect the same from my LC.

I had to flat bed my LC 200 miles back home, loaded to the gills with stuff. And it holds a lot of stuff. The trunk is larger than I thought and accommodates an oversize suitcase and a bunch of odds and ends. The rear seats do the same. So a rather long trip for 2 is very feasible. (why I didn't buy a Ford GT) Unfortunately the back seat doesn't recline. So my ski trips are out as compared to my Corvettes.

Of course if you plan long trips with more than 2 people, this won't work.

Agree, only car I am considering to replace my RCF is a LC. Well... maybe that new Tesla Roadster coming out soon, but it is a little expensive, and I still hate those Tesla interiors!

Few years back I tested LC500 and I was not ready.

I sold my fully modified CLS500 (more powerful than CLS63) but reliability kicked in, stalling many times.
then in 2018 I decided to buy E43, AWD, amg, but the sound was crappy, the wheels were 20” and everytime I hit the potholes, the suspension rattled like crazy, really hard.

Dec 2019, finally I bought 2018 LC500 with carbon fibre performance option, low 6500kms, never look back the suspension although sitting on 21” wheels, are much more comfortable than E43’s 20”, unbelievable.

Last comment, I sold E43 in mid Feb 2020, since I hardly drive the car, I warmed up every 2x weeks, on the day I took E43 to the dealer, all yellow and red WARNING lights popped up (not to put into D etc). I thought switching off and restart will solve the issue, on 2nd restart, the middle 12.3” screen came off BLACK dark, wth? On 3rd restart, the screen was back but Warning lights still on, I drove few kms and then disappeared.

Took E43 to the dealer and never looked back to any Merc. Besides everytime I serviced Merc, the reception’s attitudes were arrogant. Very happy with LC

Thank you gentlemen for the responses.

I did took 4x connectors out at the exhaust end and under the hood, I took out the auto vacuum pump, both Left and Right hand sides, so the Air Inlet Flaps remain open all the time (this alone gave more throaty sounds and louder by maybe another 20% and heaps back throttle and on downshift).

when I serviced the car, Lexus put Air Inlet Flaps back again, so it quitened down again, and I kind of missing it. I will go to my garage and open Inlet Flaps again.
lovely lovely sound, intoxicating I must say
