Some may consider the factory offsets to be conservative, but for those who may not know - they are set where they are to allow the airflow ports to function as intended. Some people think those are cooling ports, but they are strictly for laminar airflow. The functional air ports on the outer front bumper, and the quarter panels - direct air around the outside of the stock wheels/tires. Changing the offsets to a wider, more aggressive stance (as I have done with my aftermarket wheels) disturbs that airflow, effectively deleting the intended function of those air chambers. I didn't care. I like the look of the more aggressive stance, and the crisper handling. Airflow at greater speeds lost the tradeoff battle in my personal decision-making. And... I can't honestly say I've noticed any recognizable difference in stability or noise at highway speeds. YMMV.
^^^^At Highway speeds no. But in the twistees or in aggressive driving wider wheels and tires with a wider stance do make a difference

Right. To clarify _ i was referring only to interrupting the function of the airflow ports. I can't notice any difference between my stock or aftermarket setups with regards to this feature. I'm sure it must make some difference or the engineers wouldn't have provided it. Perhaps it's distinguishable at top speeds on a track(?). Not something I have any experience with. Yes, the wider stance definitely makes slalom driving much more responsive. The aftermarket wheels I have are fully forged and noticeably lighter than my stock 21's - which makes handling feel crisper for sure. Both sets are fully forged, but the aftermarket wheels have less aluminum mass due to the design (thinner spokes, etc) and lightening features. I haven't weighed either set, so I don't have numbers, but I swap my setups Spring and Fall, and for trips to the dealership - and my arms thank me whenever I'm handling the Vossens.
