Default Road Trip

Hi All,

So just got back from the first real road trip (round trip Austin TX to Deadwood SD, 3200miles).

(Mount Rushmore, bucket list thing).

Using the LC for it’s intended purpose and the reason I bought it, I am please to report the car did magnificently.

From hitting the bends in the Black Hills (Sport mode) to cruising on the Interstates (Custom - Eco Engine, Comfort suspension, normal air-con and 70 – 85mph avg).

Did some 7hr legs on the trip and the seat/driving comfort was great.

The Car reported 28 -32mpg avg between fill ups (confirmed as I manual recorded amounts/mileage).

I was worried about the storage limitations (had an A class RV which the better half emptied the house into for trips) but she managed to pack x amount of shoes/hats and all the “necessities” needed into the car for the two and a half week trip.

Two soft bags on the back seat, one large soft bag against the back of the rear seat/trunk, one medium suitcase center trunk and walking boots/tool kit etc in the spaces left over. Worked surprisingly well.

I did have anxiety about leaving the car outside Hotels in unknown areas but did fit a Viofo 329S Dashcam, Author IGLA Alarm and a steering wheel lock for the trip which helped.

Many, many people asked “what is it” or Thumbs up, which can be kind of cool but un-nerving at times when filling up with Gas (IGLA does have anti Hijacking).

Counting this a success, now planning the spring trip…. Texas to Washington state then route 101 south to 1 and California then cross country home. A much longer trip, might have to buy bags of new underwear/socks and throw the dirty washing away… lol.

Rgds.

That would dial down the MPG to 20.

Sounds like you had a great time. That’s more mileage than I do in a year on the LC.

@BriTex
Thanks for sharing this experience and glad it was an enjoyable and successful endeavor. My intention for the LC 500 is much the same as yours. I live in southeastern Michigan, and my plans are to explore the scenery , canyons, mountains and back roads of the western United States. I had a short list of automobile candidates and the LC 500 is going to be my purchase. Daily driving and road trips will be its destiny. Is your car color Iridium or Atomic Silver? It looks terrific!

I think the LC 500 would be somewhat of a step up from the 1970 Duster. Just a hunch.

I’ve had three long ones with my ‘18 LC and my experiences match yours exactly: it’s comfy, serene, and capable, but can get snarly when you want it to. Our last big trip was over to Maine for the Loring speed trials where the LC was clocked at just over 168 mph, then got 28 mpg on the way home. I can’t imagine how Lexus/Toyota could make this car any better.

Looks like Atomic Silver and it really is a beauty.

I concur with the comfort, economy and enjoyment experienced with long trips in the LC. I've done several trips (+1K) in the LC and except for storage, it's been my 1st choice vehicle. In comparison, we recently took the LX on a +1K trip (due to carrying luggage for 4 women). While the massaging seats, visibility, storage capability, "beastly stance" where nice, it just wasn't an experience like driving the LC. I guess boring comes to mind. Regardless, I feel lucky to be able to have the choice.

Maybe the ultimate would be trailering the LC behind the LX, like the RVers do. That way I could have access to the LC after reaching our destination.

With the obvious exception of storage capacity and utility I can understand how the LC 500 could be the preferable choice for long distance road trips. This isn’t difficult for me to conceive.

Same here! Drove from Miramar (FighterTown) to Virginia in a 69 GTO pulling a u-haul with everything I owned. Blew a head gasket in Nashville and limped home with 4 quarts of oil with every fill up and a huge cloud of white smoke.
My longest road trip in the LC was 9hrs from Northern VA to Augusta Ga last summer. I'm still conflicted if the 80mph thru the mountains was as good as the 95 I shot on the course.
