I spent a bit of time with it today. It seems the close function works properly but the open process needs a little tug from the user. I don't use the car daily and have nothing in the box so it is really not an issue for me. Just expected that faux pneumatic opening which Lexus pioneered was a bit more pronounced.

Yes, it can be but you would need to have a metal spring for the lever.

It only self closes, it does not self open! It is made to manually open!
