Default No Speed Limit Indicator in HUD

I noticed a couple of days ago that the speed limit indicator in the HUD is no longer functioning. This is a recent development. I am prepared to take it into the dealership, but thought I'd check here first to be sure I am not overlooking something. 2021 Coupe. Anyone experience this?

Did you turn it off in the setting?

If you open map, do you see speed limit there when you drive?

I don’t see it as an option under the HUD settings, maybe this is it.

I'll have to play around with some of the settings suggested above. I wasn't even aware that it could be disabled. Thanks for the suggestions.

I've noticed that it won't appear if you're moving under a certain speed, or on newer roads where the older maps (mine's a 2018) may not know the speed limit on that particular road. So on mine it's on only when applicable.

Although you just reminded me that I need to figure out how to update the maps without going to the Stealership

There does not appear to be a way to disable the speed limit indicator in the HUD of an LC. I have been unable to find any such capability and I was told from my dealer today that there is no such animal. I'll have to take it into the dealership.

In 2024 MY, I see this under HUD related setting in MID screen.● Display content

Select to enable/disable the following items:

• Route guidance to destination

• Driving assist system status

• Compass

• Audio system operation status

In order to show the speed limit on the HUD, your map setting has to have “show speed limit” on.
The HUD gets the info from the map.

This is from ‘24 manual.

I am somewhat convinced (but not enough to speak in definitive terms) that my '21 LC reads the speed limit sign and that it is not tied to the nav.

You may think that because the speed limit sign is usually where the map would have the sign at. So it’s natural to think that the car recognizes the sign when in fact, it’s built into the map. This is the same for school zone signs and such. They are built into the map.
The GPS is never turned off. This is how the car knows what street you’re on.

It is reading the signs, that's what Toyota Road Sign Assist does. It's not tied to the nav because if it were then it will stop working when your nav trial ends, this does not happen. The nav reads the school zones and things it tells you about on the big screen, but the signs you see in the cluster and HUD are read from the road itself.
EDIT: I guess this may depend on model year. LSS 2.5+ has RSA included, not sure about earlier versions

Edit 2: I guess it's both nav based AND actual sign based via camera:

In my sienna I have roads that have disappeared off my nav because the trial ran out, and the system reverted to factory map installed at purchase. It still reads the signs when I travel those roads even tho if they don't exist on the map.

There is no 'Map Details' option under 'Navigation' in my 2021.
