Default Why no fog lights on LC500?

Probably a stupid Q but why are there no fog lights on the LC500? Are the headlights so good that Lexus deemed fog lights to be superfluous? Don’t get me wrong, I think the lights are fantastic and I love how they automatically light up the side when you turn and the auto high beam thing works great, but why no fog lights on a $113K sporty car?

It used to be that if you didn’t get fog lights on your sporty car it meant you had the lame “secretary” V6 version, e.g. you had to step up to the GT or Z/28 trim to get fog lights on your Mustang or Camaro.

Now it seems like the trend for the last decade is to omit them - my C8 Corvette did not have any nor did the C7 which came out in 2014, but going back to at least the C4 gen in 1984 the Corvette always had fog lights as either standard or optional equipment.

I was surprised to see that my S2000 doesn’t have any either even though it came out in 2000 but it did come with factory Xenon HID lights so I guess they thought fog lights were unnecessary even back then or maybe they were just being cheap? My 2018 Wrangler has the optional LED headlights and they are the best lights I’ve ever had, probably because they sit up so high, but it also came with LED fog lights to go with them.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I think I found the spot where Lexus was going to put the missing fog light button - or am I missing some other option?

The new redesigned 2024 Tesla model 3 also omits fog lights from now on. Maybe, these are obsolete parts that we will not see offered in the future. Like what happened to ashtrays, headlight wipers, radio telescopic antennas, oil pressure gauges, carburetors, manual chock etc

Thanks SickPuppy - so after reading that thread and all the other linked threads it would seem that the missing button is for something called “ITS CONNECT” in Japanese market only? Weird that Lexus wouldnt come up with a different set of just 3 buttons for everywhere else. One nice thing about my old C8 Corvette was there were no blank buttons, for example just in front of the driving mode selector I had two buttons, one for some sort of traction control I think, and one for front nose camera. But if you got the optional nose lift feature there would be a 3rd button. Or if you got the bare bones model you would only have the one button for traction control but no blanks.

I never really understood the theory behind fog lights. I don't have a lot of fog where I live, but I fail to see how they functioned differently than headlights.

Some times called Driving Lights. However, Fog Lights are different than Headlights, because they are mounted low and are designed to shine down lighting the road beneath the fog. The top of the beam is cut off sharply so the light does not shine into the fog and reflect off it. They usually work with the low beam Headlights. High beams wont penetrate the fog and the light will bounce back.

I'm pretty sure I've got fog lights and will check later this morning. Got to say I wouldn't be without them and they are genuinely life-saving. Just a few weeks ago I was literally up in the clouds whilst driving on an Adriatic island called Korcula and the van in front of me kept "disappearing" when it was no more than 30 feet from me. Its side lights were hopeless, fog lights would have made matters a lot safer for all concerned. Got to say it was the densest cloud I have ever driven through!

Yep, much as I thought, I do have a rear fog light as shown in the pics. You turn it on/off on the light stalk. Perhaps this is a difference between UK and USA?

Interesting - in USA we don’t get that rear fog light either - and your switch is different too - ours has a spot for turning off the DRLs

A legal requirement to have a rear fog light, but not so on the front. Curiously, front facing DRL's are a legal requirement, but not so on the rear. Kind of mixed up in some ways, but I'd rather see the car in front of me, but only possible if the driver ahead has manually turned on his rear fog lamp!
