Default Official Discount off MSRP poll

This thread is in conjunction with the "What price did you pay" poll, and will give us a good idea of what kinds of discounts people have been able to negotiate.

I placed a special order last week. IS 250 RWD (Automatic) with Premium and Navigation. Standard 17-inch wheels. MSRP was $35,590. I got $2500 off MSRP.

I don't think anyone should have either, but you never know... I just thought I'd make it an option.

True, but that's what you might have to do in order to special order or get the car exactly the way you want it. There are other ways to get discounts besides MSRP, dealers throw in perks, services, maintenance, finance discounts.....what the hell, it's only money.

In my area NO ONE was giving discounts off MSRP. This was when the car first came out. I contacted 5+ dealers, including one in Boston and one in New Hampshire, and no dice. I guess I should have waited a few months... No I shouldn't have.

You need to negotiate, obviously nobody is going to just give you $ off if youre willing to pay MSRP

Everyone has a story to tell I'm sure.

Mine is I went to the dealer where I had ordered the car two months prior with a letter from another dealer offering $2,500 discount. They wouldn't match it so I was ready to walk and reorder at the other place. Finally they asked what they could do to keep my business as they wouldn't budge off MSRP even after seeing my letter. I said add the $2,500 to what you are giving me for my trade in. They did. I was happy with that because I didn't want to have to start over after waiting two months.

I answered this survey as paid MSRP. Frankly I'm happy and that is what counts.

And obviously no dealer is going to negotiate with you as long as customers are willing to pay MSRP and it's hard to even find a dealer that has any of that vehicle available. That may not have been the case in TX but it was certainly the case here. Trust me, I did my research. You can see that a bunch of people did pay MSRP. When I almost bought an S4, I got down to $6k off MSRP. It wasn't gonna happen with the IS350. The dealer had a list of people who would take the car if I didn't pay MSRP for it. They were not bluffing.

Yeah, I had to really struggle to get my $$$ off MSRP. But as part of the whole deal, I received about $1,000 over KBB value for my trade-in. Was able to get so much on the trade-in because I was initally offered the $1,000 over (was very surprised, but wasn't going to argue), then the next day was told they made a mistake in looking up the value and revised the offer to $1,000 below KBB. I told them that if I didn't get what I was initially offered for the trade-in, I was walking. After lots of haggling on that and getting as much off MSRP as I could ($800), a deal was struck.

This is my first time trying to negociate or buying a new car. when you have a trade-in, do the dealers take KBB values or lower than KBB? It seems like a lot of people getting good discounts on the new IS. How do you get it so low? Anybody here in NOVA bought a car from pohanka or lindsay lexus? and how much discounts? any helps is appreciated.

How did you convince them to make basically no profit on such a hot vehicle?
