Don’t get me wrong, I have seen this done before and didn’t hear of negative results on lighter platforms. Let’s just say there is only 10-12 mm thickness of metal between the lugs and the hub surface (just a guess). Removing 5 mm of thickness results in almost a 50% loss in structure. Even though you removed only a small percentage of the wheel hub thickness, you removed a large percentage from the lug depth area.

Maybe the rigidity remains the same, but there is a level of stress that 7 mm won’t hold and 12 mm would have. Where is that level of stress, and will you ever reach it? Maybe not, but we are guessing. I throw my car into turns at high speeds, creating very high stress on the lugs. It’s just worth considering.

I hope you have many years of trouble free enjoyment of the wheels! It looks very good.
