Hey everyone,
So this week I ran the fuel down to the light then refueled approx. 12 gals this morning (probably a total of 3 miles driven after the light went on). The fuel gauge stayed where it was at about 1/10th of a tank and appears to continue going down after further driving.
Items to note:
  • The gauge still lights up and "swoops" to the mark it believes to be accurate.
  • I stopped at another station & hit it with more gas and can confirm it's full.
  • I re-secured the gas cap 3-4 times - no change.
  • Before I left to gas up this am, I was in the trunk installing new trunk lift struts. Didn't run into any issues with this install but figured it's worth mentioning.
A search yields a few of the vague usual suspects (floater, fuel pump) on different cars.
Anyone have any thoughts?

Took the car out tonight and once it hit nothing voila, right in front of my eyes it bounced back to normal. I'll update this thread if anything changes.

Very good call & I didn't think of it. Lots of posts about gauges acting funny due to batteries on here. I will keep an eye on it and update the thread if it is.

seems like this is a same problem which has happened to me many years ago (which I posted it here.)
Service record indicated this:

SERVICE: REPAIRED ENGINE WIRE HARNESS.
DESCRIPTION: REPAIRED ENGINE WIRE HARNESS. ~ ~C/S: OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE IS FLASHING ~ ~WIRE HARNESS LOOSE AND NEEDED REPAIRED. ~ ~47118 FOUND THE DRIVE CHEWED OFF CAUSING THE CONNECTOR TO GET UNPLUG AND BREKING THE WIRE, REPAIR THE CONNEDT AND PLUG IT BACK AND PUT A NEW DRIVE BELT ON, EVERYTHING WORKING GOOD AFTER REPAIR

This was also when my fuel gauge was not responding immediately.
Hope you get this sorted out.

Thanks stvincent, this too could save the day if it happens again.

Less than a week after this these symptoms popped up.
  • Door chime got extremely quiet but was still there
  • All interior lighting & mirror button garage door opener died
Today I did a simple multi-meter test with the battery. It dipped just below 10 volts for a millisecond upon startup, but everything else appeared normal. Alternator had the battery at ~14 volts in idle & the batt had a solid 12.35 volts while off.

Checked the dome light fuse in the box next to the battery & it was blown. I replaced this & all symptoms have been fixed. I suspect it blew due to a flickering I have in my interior LED lights (the ones on roof in the front) which I'm going to tend to now. Anything else happens I'll update this thread.
