Default Unable to do primary cat delete?

Hey guys, I wanted to gut or delete my primary cats today. I got in touch with a local shop who said they'd do it for me, but when I got there, they took a look underneath the car and said it won't be possible. Now I know everyone is still at odds about whether to do this or get headers. The guy at the shop said that since the cats are welded to the headers, he would not be able to get to them. So my question is how hard is it to really get those cats off? I don't know what is really going on but I know I read a lot of people on the forum were able to successfully gut or delete their headers. Thanks for all the input guys!

The guy was expecting he could cut them off and weld in a new pipe, that's not possible to my knowledge. Everyone who has removed them just knocked out the cats, like use a socket extension and just bang at the element with a hammer until all the prices are broken and out.

Probably just clarify with him, he still might not to do it but that's the process.

I did this in my driveway. Used a 12 in crowbar and a 4lbs Mallet. You need to break it up and the pieces mostly fall out. My recommendation is to do it on a lift, shouldn't take more than 15 minutes per side.

Add the RR Tune and you'll really get the benefit of gutting

Yep, tune with the secondary O2 bypass, or get the O2 sensor simulator. Without either, you will go into limp mode because the car will sense that there is no cat. Oh and if you do it yoruself, wear eye protection and safety goggles. That stuff is nasty

Yeah true; I forgot about that. You don't need an O2 sim with the RR Tune. So you'll get more power and no CEL with the bypass function.

I also recommend a respirator. When you're knocking out the cat, you do not want to breathe in the fine dust particles.

Oh wow thanks guys! I did not know that, I'll just knock it out myself if it is that easy. I already have the RR tune so no worries about a cel. I'll definitely give it a try this weekend. Thank you for all the help!
