Default Full-time automated sport mode

Would anyone be interested in a DIY writeup on how to make your F automatically go into sport mode every time you start it? I thought I'd see if there was any interest before wasting time taking pics and putting together a writeup. I was able to do it by purchasing an automated momentary switch which i spliced into the wiring for the sport button, and now whenever I start the car it automatically goes into sport mode after a few seconds. And you can turn if off if you want by simply pressing the sport button again.

By the way, it would be for the 2008-2010MY with the sport button on the dash. I'm sure the same thing can be done for the '11+ with the button on the steering wheel, it would just need to be wired up a bit differently.

Wouldn't you rather have two oil bars minimum before you hit the sport button (& three before WOT)? That's how I roll.

Whether the engine is cold or not, I don't think having the sport mode on would harm the engine. It's thrashing the throttle on a cold motor more of the concern.

Make a turn with light-moderate throttle in sports mode and you may bounce the rev limiter on a cold engine. Too much to pay attention to when the car is cold.

Perhaps that's when pedal control comes to play if you are already used to driving the car cold on sports mode?

I wouldn't know - I've never once driven the car cold in sports mode. As stated, the shift hang on turns, along with a unpredictable behavior of the cold transmission (which this car has), prevents me from having any desire to do so.

Unsolicited advice: Ignore any mod to this function. Drive the car cold in manual using gear changes to keep the car at about 1500-2000RPM. You'll have it warmed up in half the time. Engage sport.

I leave the car out of sport before its warmed up as well, though more to keep the transmission from working too hard till its warm than the motor. I would think putting it in manual would be worse for it than just leaving it in auto-sport... Ive never tried but have only heard negative things about this transmission in manual before its warmed up.

I don't see where either of those links talk about how to automatically turn on sport mode ever time you start the car. ??

I'm guessing he didnt understand that you had a solution rather than just asking if there was a way.

Well it seems like there's definitely interest, so I'll work on putting something together. I'm be picking up my car tomorrow from getting some warranty work done, so maybe this weekend I'll get it done.

If you want more of a delay before engaging sport mode, the module does have an adjustable delay where you can have it wait anywhere from 0.1 seconds to 270 hours before the relay engages sport mode. So you can adjust it to your liking.
