Default Sport mode switch hack

Has anyone hacked the sport mode switch to make it to where its always on( and u have to turn it off)..so it defaults to always to be in sport mode and you have to turn it off if you don't wanna use it in that mode??? ( I know its easy to just to just push the button) but to me it starts to feel like a start up procedure( maybe im just too lazy)

OMG! With your question i think of a normal car with ECO button and you should know your answer right? It"s never gonna happen in that way, nobody want the car designed like that sport mode.

I would love to do this. Hitting the sport mode every single time I get in my car is a little annoying.

I don't switch to sport mode until car is fully warmed up. I think I prefer it being in normal mode by default.

I got this done on my M3 with a tune. The new M3 is very tempting.

Lightbulb I don't understand

I can understand not switching to manual shift mode until the engine oil temperature is at least warm, primarily because it is tempting to beat on the car. If you can resist the temptation, then it probably does not matter.

However, what does turning the car to "sport mode" have to do with three bars of oil temperature? Why would that matter?

It makes no difference at all. I hit it in the garage before I pull out. Just don't let it tach the engine out when it is cold.

I actually prototyped this with an arduino to have memory of whether it was on or off and set it correctly at next start. It shouldn't be much more work to have it auto-disable the VSC as well. I had intended to use it for track days, when turning the car off while waiting in line meant remembering to set everything back to enabled/disabled.

If someone knows where I can find the wire harness plugs, I could see about making it a plug-and-play solution...

I never understood why they didn't just use a toggle switch which lets you put it in Sport mode and just stay in that mode until you toggle it off. That's how my wife's Infiniti is and it's great.

On a other note, if that tune ends up working out isn't that something they could easily build into it? Have the sport mode enabled and VSC disabled at startup?

Sport mode is a bit too jerky for me on local streets. I keep it off when I'm local. When I hit the highway or areas where I can open her up, I'll engage Sport Mode. And when I see competition, I use the throttle controller in the highest setting

That's one thing I miss from my IS350.. the PWR mode switch is a toggle so it was always on when i started the car. With the F, every startup consists of sport on, VSC completely off.

Edit: I wonder if we could transplant the IS250/350 switch in our cars for perm Sport mode.. obviously this wouldn't work for the newer F's though (where the Sport button is on the steering wheel).

It's not the physical switch, it's the way the switch works. You have to complete a press cycle. It is possible to do this with hardware, and there was a guy back in 2006 working on a hardware "pedal dance" tool for those who planned to track their IS350s right up until they changed everything in 2007.
