Good thing I’m doing mines since Rrracing has already removed the whole engine out the car for the rebuild on my motor. Car is old things break I might as well while it’s out .
There was a TSB for the original water pump. Mine leaked on my 08. I replaced it last year after my radiator exploded.
I’ve read the leak occurs mostly in 08’ before part numbers was changed in 2010. Was wondering has any 2010+ was affected aside from wear/tear due to high mileage.

Interesting, what are they doing to the motor, or just a refresh for longevity?

It hasn't been a topic of discussion on this forum since the original units had their problems, mine included. Coolant pumps are not a forever item, they do wear out for sure. I plan to replace mine when I do the major maintenance at 180k miles. It would have been done pre-Covid, but I'm still at 177k right now.
Is it common for the water pump to fail on these cars? Should it be changed when replacing the radiator or just wait until it gives out? Thanks
At this point it's safer to replace under wear & tear protocols.
If your lucky the WP will alert you when it's time before some type of full failure..
In my case my Radiator Top Seal had a premature failure few years back. At the time I only did that part.
Last summer I did some maintenance items like WP, Thermo, Tensioner & Drivebelt.
Yes my WP had a stream of dry fluid showing its age and time to change.
Due to Covid my IS F has been stuck at 179k since March, I'm usually good for 1,600 miles a month.
So I ordered a new waterpump from Rock Auto, AISIN WPT187. The box is labeled with OEM part # 16100-39506, which is the updated part according to Lexus, but the actual waterpump has 2A on the casting instead of 3A, which according to the OP is the "defective" version. Does anyone know if the 2A cast is an actual telling sign that I received the defective version?
