Default Water/Methanol Injection

I know these systems are primarily meant for forced induction. Was talking to a friend of mine who has an AEM system in his S60R, and stated it's quite an improvement. I never thought about these being used in N/A motors like ours, but AEM makes one. Just curious on what the thoughts were on a system like this. Is this something that could possibly help more on top of a tune? I'm not actively looking to do this, I'm just curious if it's one of those "is it worth it?" items. I did a search in the group and found minimal information and input on it.

I don't see why it wouldn't be beneficial. It would cool the intake charge and raise the octane level. Those that live in the hotter climates would probably benefit the most. I have a kit from Snow Performance that I bought for my supercharged foxbody mustang. But it's been sitting in the box since I bought it a few years ago. LMAO

The two ways to run meth are as follows:
1. Tune the car without meth and just use it to fight heat soak and to keep IATs and power consistent over long durations of "spirited" use (i.e. track days). This is the safe way to do it but isn't likely to make much or any power. The goal of doing it this way is simply to reduce how quickly the car loses power when at or near full throttle for more than a few seconds. It's really only pertinent to forced induction cars since N/A cars don't have nearly as big of an issue with heat soak. I'm not sure doing this would be of any benefit for a street driven N/A IS-F since IATs wont rise too much even with "spirited" street use.

2. Tune the car for meth to make more power (by advancing the timing). You'll need someone knowledgable who can do a custom tune on a dyno. Doing it this way is a lot more risky since you will do damage to your engine if you ever run the meth tank dry and don't have an ECU that can switch maps automatically. You *may* make more power on an N/A IS-F if you live in a hot climate but I can't imagine it would be much.

Bottom line is that I honestly don't think it would be worth it unless you went FI. It would be a lot of money by the time you're done with the tune for likely not a whole lot of power gain and potentially a reliability issue if the tuner messed up on any of his tables.

^^^^No. 2 is not really feasible on a Toyota product.

Agreed with SpeedFreaks, not many benefits for additional weight, unless FI of course.

Yup, boosted it's a whole new game. 93octane + Meth = E85 almost, makes great power but safety needs to be in place.

Lotta work for tiny gains. I wouldn't do it. Meth only makes sense if you're cooking or boosting.

LOL. It took me longer than I'd admit to get that reference.
