Sometimes I get that error or something similar and I just hit retry and it's fine. Techstream is really brittle, not sure if its just the version I'm using or what but mine seems to crash a lot.
Is it a cheap China cable? It's a common problem with those. I could never get mine to read the engine data table.
Yeah, I'm reading a thread on toyotanation. These guys are experimenting the same thing.
All of you that are seeing KCLV, everyone is running a real cable?
I don't have the cable check pulled up right now, but I'm betting if you click help then cable diagnostic check or whatever it is titled, it will fail one of the last two tests on the can-h, can-l and L pins. My guess is those are needed to read that data table. If anyone has any tips to remedy this, please post as I am in the same boat. Curious what my KCLV is as well.
I had that issue too. I solved it by updating the Java. After that, it didn't show up nomore.
What OS are you running? I updated Java on a Mac running VMware and Windows XP but I couldn't get it to work. Wondering if a Windows 7/8/11 machine would work any different.
No luck, went from Java 6 to Java 8 and still unable to read engine data
If I do the cable diagnostic check, every test comes negative.... Almost impossible since I can customize the settings and I'm pretty sure I have 12V and ground on the VCI

I get the same error code. It's been about a month since I've tried it so I'll give it another shot soon. I've never tried that cable diagnostic check; I'm curious to see what it is.
On a side note, I did program my credit card key successfully with this cable.
