I think that it may work with a windows xp laptop. I'm also in the dilemma of not being able to see the knock level. I'm on windows 10 btw.

ok let me come in to remind everyone that techstream pretty works only XP computers and in most cases windows 7. If you don't have those 2 OS in your pc or laptop, certain things will not work. I have it on my netbook with windows 7. its a bit brittle but it works. So to those experiencing problems make sure you have the correct windows on your computer before installing techstream. it might be better for you to invest in something else besides using your laptop.

I had the same problem when using an ebay cable. I could only do the basics.. like personalized settings and such. when it came to actually transmitting live data and connecting to some ecus i would get all types of errors. Narrowed it down to the cable being the problem after using my friends Mongoose cable, it worked every time.

I ended up having to buy a new laptop that runs Windows so I could flash my Ecu using the handheld scanner. I decided to try installing tech stream and all the cable drivers on it and to my surprise it actually worked. It was not a simple process and there were many failed attempts but I finally have it working. I would recommend searching for "Windows 10 techstream 10.30.029 install" and you should be able to figure it out from there. Disclaimer- I'm not responsible for any malware associated with this.

Guys bumping this up - I am having the same issue. I am able to to connect, change settings, etc, but I cannot read KCLV. I get the error message others are getting while running Windows 7.

Thinking it might be my cable - what is the right cable to get?

I believe that the cable has to have a version of 2.0.4 or something. Have you tried a windows xp pc?

I have not yet tried XP - I am using an old notebook with Windows 7. I also have an older notebook (that no longer holds a charge) with XP - I will try that.

Ran the diagnostics on the cable and the 2 pins that read the ecu did not pass the test.

Has anyone been able to read the kclv with a $20 cable? If so, what cable?

Guys - I hate to be a PITA about this, but the fact is, unless you purchase a pro license through TIS, you are using illegal software. No, I'm not "holier than thou" as I have tried the same thing and arrived at the same impasse - can't read engine data with the cheap Chinese made Xhorse copy on an '08, but can easily on a '12. However, the rules here clearly state we are not to discuss pirated software, and this is something we can't overlook. We have been told to cease and desist. So, there are other forums with plenty of information covering how to pirate Techstream and help you work around problems you will encounter with your pirated copy. We won't do it here. Sorry about that, but it is the site policy.
