Default OEM midpipe with HKS SSM axle-back exhaust fitting...not going in all the way?

i was wondering if the anyone with hks ssm have the same experience....the axle-back is bolt on,but the flange thats suppose to mate with the oem midpipe seems a little small,so the oem flange and gasket (thick tappered type) won't go in the hks all the way, there's a half inch gap between the 2....is this normal?

Good question, I wish I had the answer for us both. I have been debating this setup but will hold off until someone else can verify.
