When Does the Gas Light Come On?
I'm at 1/8th tank and a range of 24 miles but the light hasn't come in yet...
I recently taped off the AFS to block it from blinking (2012 headlights)..hoping I didn't screw anything up

16.9 is total capacity. There is no "reserve" there is only a low fuel level light. The countdown to zero miles still leaves a lot of room for the driver to get to a fuel source. I've driven over 50 freeway miles after I saw zero on the mileage countdown.

For the Canadians around here, my light comes on when I drop below 35km range. The gauge still shows one block.
I've played chicken with the light a couple times and the lowest I got the range indicator was 2km lol.

i've heard this, also. that at the very bottom of the tank are various deposits that accumulate (i'm assuming if you use different brand gas, since they all add their own additives/mixture, etc.) and that running your tank all the way down will circulate those deposits into the fuel system. maybe this applies more for older vehicles?

No. There is a subtank inside the gas tank to ensure the pump is continuously bathed in fuel.
Sediment in the tank would have to get through the sock on the fuel pump and the filter in the tank before it could possibly get to the fuel system. You would have to buy gas with sand in it to cause harm to this system. Toyota is VERY conservative with their fuel system designs.

So GOOD to know this. I was in full panic mode when I had 3 miles left before I arrived at the nearest gas station
My car is exactly the same as this.
